2020: A year of good musics and albums for bad time

This year has been laden with many unfortunate circumstances. Deaths, recession, workers being laid off due to unending virus, peaceful protests that led to untimely deaths of civilians and incessant strikes. What have we not really seen in this year? We have seen a lot, both the good and the bad. I bet if ministers of God have the premonition of what 2020 will unfold.
One of those good things that happened to us is that during all these bad times, our artistes do not cease to give us songs or albums to ease the tention. I could remember when Lagos State governor was concealing the truth from the citizens of Lagos, the people immediately started singing “Fem”. This was to tell the governor he was talking too much and they were not interested in the lies. In the same vein, Burna boy released a song titled 20/10/2020 or 20th of October, 2020 following the Lekki toll gate massacre. Posterity can’t see what happened on that unfateful day but they could learn about it through the intellectual work of Burna boy.
‘King of love’ was released on June 25th. The album contained 17 tracks of which some were recorded based on true life experience of Kiss Daniel.
‘Vibes and Insha Allah’ surfaced on July 29th. It was released by Reminisce who is also known as Alaaga Ibile. The album title became favorite phrase/slang used by people when they are expressing hope
‘Twice as Tall’ came out on Aug 14th. The album was really dope and Burna boy showed us that there’s more from where previous songs came from. It had about 15 tracks of which most of them were singles.
‘Apollo’ was released on August 2Oth by one of YBNL acts, Fireboy DML. The fantastic work of art had songs like Champion, Eli, Sound, Dreamer, Friday feeling and other interesting songs.
‘Afro Pop, Vol. 1 EP’ surfaced on August 21th. Adekunle Gold, through this work of art, really showed the other side of his versatility in the game. It had interesting songs like ‘something different’ ‘okay’ ‘pretty girl’ ‘AG baby’ ‘Sabina’ and others.
‘Celia’ was released on August 27th being the third studio album of Tiwa Savage. Celia had about 13 mind- blowing songs with features from Davido, Naira Marley and Sam Smith.
‘Restless’ by Simi was released in October 2nd. The EP had mind-blowing tracks like “No longer beneficial” “city lights” ” there for you and others.
‘Carpe Diem’ album which means that someone should enjoy the present and worry less of the future was released on 0ctober 7th. It had very dope songs in it and people are still vibing to tracks like “loading” “infinity” “greenlight” and “triumphant”
‘Made in Lagos’ album was released by Starboy on October 30th. Wizkid used a new style in the entire songs in the album and it was really cool. He featured the likes of Burna boy, Skepta, Ella Mai, Tems, H.E.R and others.
‘A better Time’ which was released by Davido on November 13th had great artistes like Nicki Minaj, Lil Baby, Chris Brown, Young Thug, Mayorkun, Mugeez, Nas, Bella Shmurda and Sauti Sol.
In a nutshell, Nigerian artistes have done whole lot of work to make 2020 worth living. Also, we have Rema Compilation by Rema, One day you will understand by Mr Eazi, Original copy by Dj cuppy, Boo of the Booless by Chike, For Broken Ears by Tems, What have we done by Omah Lay, Zaza vibes by L.A.X, Off the Rocord by Reekado Banks, Gratitude by Timaya, Flavour of Africa by Flavour, Ecstasy by Lil Kesh, Empress by Yemi Alade and other intriguing albums came out this year, amidst all unfortunate circumstances that happened.
