Viral Video: Nigerians knock Akpabio over ‘token’ given to senators remark
Following a viral video of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, revealing that money had been sent to all senators by the clerk of the National Assembly ahead of their holiday, Nigerians reacted.
According to the video seen by Tribune Online on Wednesday, the Senate President, while addressing his colleagues before the adjournment motion was moved, said money had been sent by the clerk of the National Assembly to the senators to enjoy their holidays.
“In order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the clerk of the national assembly,” Akpabio was quoted in the viral video.
However, the video has generated criticisms from Nigerians who took to social media to call out the lawmakers, describing them as unbothered by the current situation in the country.
A Twitter user, @VictorIsreal_, wrote, “Godswill Akpabio is a disgrace. He didn’t realize he was on Live TV when he said that a token has been sent to the senators’ accounts for their holidays. The situation of the country doesn’t concern them. They just want to steal money. God punish anybody supporting this government 📌”Another user, @Jaypeegeneral wrote, “He didn’t realize he was still on a live TV, they are suffocating the poor with suffering and enjoying themselves. They don’t care about you and I. SAD!”
