The chairman of National Population Commission, Nasir Kwarra, has disclosed that the country’s population has officially reached 206 million.
The last nationwide census was conducted about 14 years ago and since then no census has been conducted to know the actual population of the country. According to NPC Chairman, he said that “In the absence of actual census, we formally do projections and we have all along been doing our projections and we estimate that as of 2020, the estimated population of Nigeria 206 million.”
Furthermore, the chairman also said that he doesn’t know when next the actual census will be conducted because only the President, Muhammadu Buhari has the sole right to announce nationwide census.
However, he assured that the President will soon give an order for census commencement as the National Population Commission is urging him to address the issue.
