President Buhari Inaugurates INEC Chairman For Another Tenure
President Muhammadu Buhari chaired the Federal Executive Council Meeting at Aso Villa in Abuja and inaugurated the incumbent INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu for a second term.
Professor Mahmood Yakubu, on December 9th, was inaugurated for a second term as chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and commended that elections in the country are getting better.
This was said immediately after the inauguration ceremony which happened at the Council Chambers in Aso Villa, Abuja. According to Prof. Yakubu, he said that “We have clearly demonstrated in recent elections that elections are getting better and better and elections will continue to get better and better.”
Recall that the senate confirm his appointment as chairman of the electoral body last Tuesday.
Also, the appointment for a second tenure as INEC chairman has been regarded as a feat which has not been recorded in history of Nigerian politics. The chairman himself added that “It is a big responsibility. It is history. No Nigerian has been so privileged to serve as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission twice. And it is a responsibility I am going to discharge consistent with the oath of office I took.”
